PROJECTS
1 . Fractal Image Compression : With the recent emergence of the
Web and Multimedia as major forces in I.T industry, it has become
imperative to research for good quality image compression
algorithms with fast encoding and high compression ratios. This
project, nearing completion, attempts to do that using new
algorithms and already a few papers have been communicated to
international conferences in this regard.
2 . A Metric Suite for Java : Java, the object-oriented language
that is highly suitable for various applications including the
Internet, is being widely used today. At this juncture, it is
essential that software tools for evaluating these programs be
present. We have developed a Java application that evaluates the
source code of any given Java program based on various metrics.
3 . A Reliable Broadcast Network using IPX : IPX is a connection-
less or unreliable datagram service used commonly in PC networks.
Based on a paper by Tanenbaum et al., we have implemented a
reliable, broadcast network over IPX. Its performance was also
tested and analysed.
4 . A DOS based image morphing package : Digital Image morphing
is an exciting special effects tool in the multimedia and
entertainment industry. We have developed a complete morphing
package for 256 color images within the limitations of DOS using
a VGA display system.
5 . An Object Database system, ODYSSEY : Implementations of Object
databases have to resolve various issues such as variable-length,
complex record storage and storage support for user-defined data
types. Our implementation in MS-VC++ of the Object database
addressed these problems in simple, but efficient ways. Based on
this work, a paper had also been published.
